Pretty things & lovely people

On Saturday morning I was woken early by the tweeting of birdies and the light through my window. Mornings seem to be getting earlier lately..anyway without dilly dallying I quickly got dressed, dragged a comb through my scary witchy bed hair and high tailed it up to a deceased estate garage sale. Aptly opposite the Daylesford cemetery...

And it was a beauty! A shed full of treasures at reasonable prices...lovely! I found a pile of teatowels and some sweet table cloths. I love this yellow one with the blue birds on it.

Some pretty plates for future tea parties...or just for every day. I like using these kind of plates rather than plastic or boring functional ones. Of course the kids do too.

I love this flowery tin, I think it might use it for Dandelion receipts or maybe ribbons & ric rac.

One of my favourite things was this peg apron. It is quite a humble piece but so lovingly stitched and the fabric is soft and friendly. Being a bit of a mad washerwoman it really appeals to me, and it feels like it has a happy history. Maybe it's previous owner liked hiding down at the washing line, day dreaming too!

Another pretty find was this baking dish, for one dollar! I also found fantastic handmade, vintage tool box which I gave to the birthday boy, along with an american football. Oh, and several adorable old childrens books with gorgeous illustrations. What a great garage sale and so worth being woken up for.

The rest of the weekend was chock a block full of activity. Halloween, ballet..

..building a new vegie patch with hay bales, sewing, hanging with the kids, it was all happening. As if that wasn't enough I also found out yesterday that my brother, Ben, and his family are more than likely moving to Tasmania for two years!! wow! I'm in that funny state of being happy for them but a little sad for us. If any of you out there live in Hobart maybe you could tell me which primary schools you like as they will be looking at them shortly.

Lastly here is a rasberry cake that my lovely neighbour Alison brought over for us. This little gesture really moved me after a tiring and stressful day, I almost cried. Isn't it a thoughtful thing to do? It was a delicious cake too, must get that recipe. I love the generosity of the people we know & the great sense of community that comes from living in a country town. Of course this can happen in the city too but for us it has seemed easier here. There is so much to like about where we live, the room to breath, the lack of cars & intrustive advertising, the fresh air, the people, the pace...oh, and the garage sales! Hope you have a lovely week, see you soon xo

It looks like such a lovely weekend, the sort I'd like to have. Especially with that sweet raspberry cake (for the taste, and the gesture). I love the peg apron too. There really is something precious about an item someone else has made and worn...

Oh what a gorgeous neighbour you have for doing such a lovely cake for you. It looks delicious. I love those plates you found at the garage sale too, and the linens look great too. I am sure you will be happy about your brother moving away, at least you can visit for holidays. Tasmania is really just gorgeous you know, I have been twice and the second time was wonderful. It is so green there too.

What amazing treasures! I love the peg apron. Sounds like a great weekend.

I have lots of friends who send their children Lansdowne Crescent in West Hobart. There is a good community of parents at the school.

That Allison is amazing! She has so much on herself but is still so kind and thoughtful. Your garage sale finds look fantastic, almost makes me wish I got up earlier. I love the plates the best and the idea of using them everyday. I hope you have a lovely day Beck.

That sounds like my idea of a perfect weekend, except for your brother moving away, but you might be able to have a nice holiday in Tassie. I agree with the sense of community thing too in the country. Its something I want my kids to grow up knowing.

Wow! Lucky lady you are. How nice she brought you that cake. Makes you want to do something for someone else, doesn't it? Great finds at the sale, goodness! Love the apron too. Do you suppose her name was "Peg"?

I love all your bargains - I have had some good charity shop finds recently. Our days are shortening now - that's what I hate about this time of year! Little Jenny Wren is a Tasmanian blogger - not quite sure whereabouts (littlejennywren.blogspot.com)
