Flood

Our drive into Ballarat for ballet this morning was a little more eventful than usual.

Heavy rains overnight had flooded the roads,

making the drive a little... challenging!

As we came into Creswick we were amazed to see houses & shops flooded and people walking knee deep in water, and one fella walking along in his undies! Not long after we drove through the town it's main roads were closed.

It's still raining now and more is forecast for this afternoon. I"ve never seen anything like it in this area. The creeks have turned into rapids and the paddocks have turned into lakes. This extreme weather is scary and dramatic. Hopefully there won't be too much damage.

After ballet, where everyone was talking floods & rain, we had to drive home a different way. There we were stopped by police as there had been an car accident. Luckily they let us through. Everywhere we looked there was water, or 'pink water' as Rosie called it.

The wind howled and the rain fell all the way home. I'm glad we got home safely and our own house is ok. In a sec I'm off to check on a friends house as they are away, but I can't wait to get back and snuggle up, safe & warm inside.
Anything dramatic happening in your world today?
Hope it's nice and calm and happy and dry,
see you soon,
Beck xo

Oh no Beck it's terrible when the rain just won't stop when there seems to have been more than enough. I hope that your friends house is safe and that all of you stay safe and dry.xo

Holey moley! Great photos. Where is that last one from? How crazy is that pink potato water!
So pleased to hear you are all safe and dry. Hope you stay that way and like you said, that there is not too much damage. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. X

Glad that you guys are okay, and got through safely. There has been and earthquake in Christchurch, the early hours of this morning. 7.1 I think it was. (no where near us) Quite shocking as there hasn't been one on that scale for a while! These extremes of weather keep getting worse.x

Oh I am so happy that you made it safely home and you havent been flooded out. We have had rain all night and sadly I have to go to dancing for Isabelle tonight in the cold and wet. I do hope the rain waits until we get home later on but it hasnt stopped as yet. It seems that you have had an awful lot more rain than we have had in the past 24 hours! Stay warm and cozy.

My sister has been sending photos from Clunes all day. She lives across the road from the creek - it's overflowed and flooded the bowling club, the footy grounds and the park across the road. Luckily they're house is built up high so everything is still nice and dry. Its amazing how everything has flooded so quickly though.

It's amazing to think all of this flooding and chaos is happening not so far from Melbourne, yet we're almost completely unaffected by it. I wondered where the Rains of Doom had fallen, since they hadn't visited my house.

I hope the waters recede soon.

Wow. What a shock to have water in your house. It must be tough for a lot of people down your way at the moment. Hopefully the water crisisi has at least been solved by these catches. Cherie

Wow. Very dramatic! Very disappointed you didn't get a photo of the chap in his undies wading through the water though. Lol. That must have been a sight to behold! Like Jennie says, very dramatic stuff happening in NZ South Island today but nowhere near Auckland. Hope it all clears up for you soon.

Crickey. Haven't seen Creswick like that in ages! They say the Barwon River is almost at capacity and that's closer to home for us so who knows what the next couple of days will bring. The rain hasn't stopped all day.

Oh Beck - how terrible after all these years of drought, to have such floods for the locals to deal with. Are you and yours safe?

Oooo Gadzooks Beck I'm so glad you're safe ... no idea the rain is so torrential down your way. I went to a Tupperware party at my Grandaughters house today. Had great fun and and spent too much.
Please all stay warm and safe down there ;-)

I was just saying to Hubby I hope all my Bloggy friends down south are OK?

You guys are getting the rain that is usually reserved for us up here in the tropics!

Hope everyone is all right and that the water drops quickly as I see there is another big weather cell right behind this one....our world is topsy turvy at the moment!

Those poor farmers who have gone from drought to flood, there will be nothing left on their places :-(

Graphic photographs indeed.
And still our beloved politicians are doing next to nothing to mitigate global warming.
In July 2010 atmospheric CO2 was 390 ppm. In July 2008 it was 386 ppm.
