My Creative Space

It's all about doll making here at our place at the moment.

It started on the rainy long weekend, it seemed like a good idea at the time! At it was. The kids have been immersed in their creations and it's so satisfying watching them making something they love. Having four children standing around me at the sewing machine, loudly discussing their designs, who was next, which buttons they could use was inspiring...but also LOUD.

Sunday's doll was born first. Jane has long. long legs and hair made from a blanket fringe. She hasn't got a mouth yet, mainly because mouths are hard to do and we are waiting for inspiration!

Then along came Loopy. Rosie stuffed Loopy's legs, taking great care, and then we looked for some suitable hair.

Mermaid hair of course.

Arms were next.

And then an old woollen dress from the Dolly Clothes Basket.

While they were waiting for their turn the button box was tipped upside down and buttons were sorted into colours.
I can remember doing this when I was little too.

Lucy is working on a sailor doll with blue & white striped legs & Bill has quickly made up his spotty monster/teddy who is waiting for his mouth and eyes. Apparantly he will be reversable so perhaps he will be scary one side and happy the other? I'll have to wait and see. I love making toys with my kids, I could do it all day! But hey, who has orders to fill and dishes to do? Who has chickens to feed, washing to hang & fold, bills to pay, oh, and nametags/pincushions to make?! Hmmmm.....hope your creative space is ace today, check out some more aciton over here xo

Remember all those vintage buttons I have been collecting?

They are turning into pretty hair clips...

I'm loving all the different colours,

and shapes. Like shiny lollies and flowers.

Our garden is full of gorgeous roses at the moment. When I walk out the back door there is the most amazing scent, made stronger by the warm air. It's another hot day and I'm finishing off the clips and brooches. ( In between looking after Bill, who is home, sick, and playing with Rosie.)

I was so thrilled the other day to find a gorgeous parcel from Kitty in my letterbox! I love my new pincushion (so handy) and all the other lovely bits she included. What a sweetie you are Kitty, thank you so much, I loved everything. This is the first thing I have won whilst blogging so it is extra special.

Last night I had a lovely evening at Father Kevin's. It was the last School Board meeting of the year which was followed by a delicious dinner. What a beautiful old building he lives in and with good company and a fabulous meal it was a real treat. How good is a meal you don't have to cook yourself???!!! But when I go t home I couldn't sleep so today I am feeling pretty exhausted. Sunday came in early, just before six, to show me her tooth had fallen out!! Exciting!!
Wow, one of my little creations is growing up xo

My Creative Space

Yes..more buttons! A return trip to my favourite opshop unearthed a few more special buttons and the original button tin. Yay!

Isn't it a busy time of year?? I haved been having that oh my god feeling when I think about all that I want to achieve over the next few weeks. I have three things due for my class, our garlic needs harvesting as of next week and then there's the makers market. (Oh, and a family to look after!) I must remember to breathe, calm down, breathe.
Today I am in market mode and it's time to make some more bunnies.

This means a trip to the Creswick Woollen Mills to choose some more blanket offcuts. They always have something new and it's fun to try and match the patterns with vintage fabrics. The fawn coloured one is a favourite, it seems to work well with the softer colours of old pillowcase materials.

Laid out like this the bunny shapes, without ears, remind me of paper chain dolls.

One bunny has ears, and a pretty blue skirt.

I think the dark tweed will be a boy bunny. Knitted green overalls maybe?

This little patchwork piece is also bunny related. It is for the Daylesford Maker's Market...I wonder what it will be?

Are you having a creative day?
Don't have to many oh my god moments, ok?! For more spaces pop over here xo

My Creative Space

This week I am breathing a sigh of relief as things seem to be a little calmer. The Love Hearts order for Big Dreams is finished, my first assignment for my course is handed in and the garlic has been weeded. Phew. I'm feeling like there is a bit more room to move, to look around me, to think & daydream.

I really enjoyed that last batch of Love Hearts (thank you for all your lovely comments), and I will be making more for the Daylesford Makers Market. But now there is some space for other ideas and projects. I found these buttons at the opshop yesterday, not sure what they will become yet but I like them! The white ones need cleaning, any ideas? I think someone suggested putting them in the dishwasher...

I can't get enough colour this week. The colours in the country are so inspiring at the moment. With all the rain we've had everything is so lush and bright. Which reminds me of this gorgeous pot holder which was a birthday present for my mum. Beautifully made by the very clever Kate, from Foxs Lane. Thanks so much Kate.

With the market coming up I am starting to sort through the leftovers and mayhem from last time. This bunny needed some eye surgery. His eyes were always a bit askew so he had a mini makeover today.
And he found a friend.

Do you think he needs pants?

I'm still wondering about these scrabble pieces. I think they might turn into brooches...

So my creative space today is filled with lots of finished and lots of unfinished things.
Questions, letters, buttons, bunnies, birds and the colours of the rainbow.
