Hurricane Rosie strikes again!!

Juggling life with children & creative/personal pursuits can be challenging can't it? I'm finding it tricky to get the balance...this is an ongoing thing for me, as I'm sure it is for others. My youngest one, Rosie, or Hurricane Rosie as someone called her the other day, is a Big Personality who has so much energy & a real lust for life.

Needless to say she is a dynamo to be around and brings me alot of happiness. It's important to me to be around for my kids and Rosie and I have a lot of fun together, making things, exploring, being silly, enjoying life. But it's hard to find the space sometimes to do the things I want to do. Lately I have been fighting hard to find that space...but I'm not giving up!! Thanks to blog land at least I get to see what other people are making & that is so inspiring. I'm constantly amazed and excited by all the wonderful creative people out there.

This weekend I managed to finish this butterfly picture that has been on hold for ....several years! These lovely flutterbys come from an old library book from the Footscray Library, a great library that we visited alot when we lived in Seddon. Hopefully it won't take me as long to get it up on the wall!

Although it doesn't feel like I am achieving much there have been lots of little things getting done...I'm loving our newly finished fire place! Not a great shot but you get the general idea. Mark & I are slightly addicted to watching the series The Wire, on dvd, by the fire at night.

A girl can still get to the market too, I found these bottles yesterday. Wouldn't mind a drop or two of Womaton!! I had to look twice at the other bottle...at first I thought it might be an old fashioned aid for fella's!

There's still time for one of my other loves. chookens! Here is Henrietta enjoying a drink and a frolic in the fresh hay..

can I come in?

Besides creative frustrations life is actualling tootling along well lately. I'm not walking as much as I'd like but still working on it every second day or so. It's cold and wet and misty but I'm kind of enjoying winter and catching up with friends over nice, hot cups of tea. After a catch up with Kate on Friday I ran into Stuart Purves from Australian Galleries, who has recently bought a property in the area, We got talking about life in a small country town, bumping into familiar faces & how lovely the smaller world can be. This got me thinking about the importance of connecting with others. I really enjoy living in a friendly, supportive community and that's also what I enjoy about blogging. Thanks to everyone, by the way, for their comments on my last post. Hope you have a great week! xo

ps: Hurricane's quote of the day (me standing talking with two women from school) "Mum, you just farted! You should have said excuse me!" Nice one Rosie....

Just did a major blog catch up - hadn't been here for a while and enjoyed reading every post your wrote.
Finding balance is not easy but from what I read, it seems like you are doing great! You compensate the lack of being creative with other things so I'm sure it will feel OK in the end. ;)
Love the fireplace *turns lime* ;)

My Miss Isabelle sounds just like your daughter, never sits still and is always doing something. The latest thing is cartwheels and handstands in the house (luckily there is room) and always listening to music and making something creative. Your post reminded me too of when I used to take long walks during my lunch hour to Seddon and walk along the streets and look at the old weatherboard houses which I loved. I used to work for the solicitors in Nicholson Street where you could always peer out the window and see all the traffic heading towards the city. You are right though, it is nice to live in a smaller world and know your community, and your little piece of the world looks just wonderful. Oh my sister's very good friend runs the post office in Daylesford so it is a very small world isnt it.

OMG Beck Rosie is just hilarious! I can't stop laughing about that fart comment. She really is a special kid. We have a couple of Rosisms in our house too; icycole day and Gayschool. Love it. Love your butterfly picture too. XX

rosie sounds like my daughter- a lot of fun, but loud, quite busy, occasionally embarrassing, and a lot of work. we must see to it that they never meet-the fate of society as we know it is in our hands. :)

i have a hard time finding the times to do all the creative things i want to pursue as well. i have to try to fit them in little bits of time throughout the day, which can sometimes seem frustrating.

Firstly, I'm not sure if that bottle of Stiffitis is safe to have in the house - empty or no.

Secondly, Hurricane Rosie is a cracker! Come on, fess up, you're amongst friends...you blushed, didn't you?

Love the pics! That chicken is GREAT! Mine are loving free ranging in the country. I'm so worried cats will get them or a stray dog. Caught a big tom cat "stalking" them yesterday. Shooed him away right before he pounced. We shut them up in their coop at night though. I guess it's part of it...

Ha ha ! I loved this post...we live so parallel! Martha is very much like Rosie! I think they are of a similar age yes? That tonic for women made me laugh. About 8 ish years ago I had post natal depression and my Aunt told my her aunt who was very concerned and empathic for me and sent a message to go to the doctor for a "tonic"...maybe this is what I needed !

rosie looks too sweet to do fart comments! what a character. plenty of hurricane action around here and plenty of frustration about creative projects being started and not finished. it would be so nice to have stretches of uninterrupted time to get things done. henrietta is also super cute would like one of each of those girls please!

I love this post. Not only do your words reassure me that I am normal in worrying about my efforts to find balance, but all the commenters reassure me too. I am finding this blog world a great way to feel connected with people. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Oh, and I have a 3yo and a 10mth old at home with me, so I know what you mean about the hurricane. Don't they make you laugh.

Hi Beck
I think Mimi is gona be a bit of a whirlwind if not a hurricane like Rosie, although she"s only 1, I think it"s because of having older siblings and a more stimulating environment. Or maybe it:s a Mum already exhausted by 2 others so she gets more freedom to explore and push the boundaries? Anyway she is a delight and after having a few you know this stage doesnt last forever.
